  • Entertaining: A Christmas Tablescape

As the end of the year approaches and the colder weather settles, there is no better way to mark the festive season and warm the home than with a beautiful Christmas tablescape. Holiday decorations can transform a room into a wintery haven perfect for entertaining, welcoming guests at the door with a traditional red-ribboned pine wreath and a glowing Christmas tree. But for me, nothing is more important than setting an elegant seasonal table that both charms and comforts my guests.

This year I wanted to give the impression that the table was laid in a winter forest, as I like natural scents and textures, and headed to my local market to buy fresh branches of pine, spruce and juniper to place across the centre of a vintage I table found in Paris. Following a seasonal colour scheme of garnet reds and emerald greens, I accented the design with eucalyptus and ripened red pomegranates, scattering a selection of cheese and fruit platters throughout the fresh greenery. A number of white candlesticks I found in a handmade candle shop in Ibiza added a touch of white and Christmas light.

  • I chose to set the table with silverware sourced in Paris and a collection of typical southern Spanish ceramic plates that I once bought on a trip to Spain. Arranged on bespoke placemats made with some of my favourite fabrics to anchor the table and characterized by their pomegranate glaze, these plates worked beautifully with the centrepiece of the table. Smoked glasses and natural linen napkins with a dark grey piping provide a natural contrast and softness to the design.

In my opinion, no festive table is finished without an individual gift. I placed a natural paper box accented with a crimson macramé ribbon. A carefully placed cinnamon stick adds a festive and fragrant touch and hints at the home-made biscuits inside….proof that it doesn’t have to be a lavish gift!
