  • Ibizan Home History

On this trip to Ibiza I was particularly struck by the island’s unique and culturally-infused architecture. There is something utterly mesmerizing and spectacular about the way in which the Spanish sun is reflected on the white limestone of the island’s homes. I began to do a little digging and learnt that the history of the island’s architecture, in fact dates back to the Assyrian and Egyptian empires that used the island as trading posts.

  • I also discovered that traditional Ibizan homes were far ahead of the sustainability trend. Original homes utilized cisterns that were attached to drainage pipes in their roofs to collect and reuse rainwater. With such a beautiful and sublime location on the sea, Ibizan homes have developed over the centuries to be simplistic masterpieces of their own – allowing the natural world around them to hold the spotlight, but stealing a little bit of the sunlight from time to time.
