Style Guide: Natural Materials in Bathrooms
3. Wood: Introducing wood into your bathroom design can infuse warmth and a rustic charm into the space. Opt for water-resistant woods like teak or cedar for vanities, shelving, and flooring.
The spacious bespoke bathroom I designed for our rustic villa (pictured right) employs almost all of these materials. The double vanity was made from heavily rusticated oak with a liquid bronze wash connected to a counter of leathered Spanish soapstone. The custom red copper bath from India was purposefully built to be extra thick to moderate the room’s and sits on a travertine marble floor. The mixture between this array of hard and soft, cold and warm natural materials, makes for a strikingly balanced bathroom.
